This Day’s Thought-Monday

This Day's Thought

It is not difficult to see one vital significance of Jesus Christ: He has given us the most glorious interpretation of life’s meaning that the sons of men have ever had.  The fatherhood of God, the friendship of the Spirit, the sovereignty of righteousness, the law of love, and glory of service, the coming of the kingdom, the eternal hope—there never was an interpretation of life to compare with that.

Harry Emerson Fosdick

This Day's Verse

How do you know what is going to happen tomorrow?  For the length of your lives is as uncertain as the morning fog—now you see it; soon it is gone.

James 4:14
The Living Bible

This Day's Smile

My advice to you is, take a house next door to the Physician, for it will be very singular if you should prove to be the very first He ever turned away unhealed.

Samuel Rutherford

This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

God only is holy.  He alone knows how to lead His children in the paths of holiness.  He knows every aspect of your soul, every thought of your heart, every secret of your character, its difficulties and hindrances.  He knows how to mould you to His will, and lead you onwards to perfect sanctification.  He knows exactly how each event, each trial, each temptation, will tell upon you, and he disposes all things accordingly.  The consequences of this belief, if fully grasped, will influence your whole life.  You will seek to give yourself up to God more and more unreservedly, asking nothing, refusing nothing, wishing nothing, but what He wills.  Instead of seeking to bring things about for yourself, you will take all He sends joyfully, and believe the “one step” set before you to be enough for you.  You will be satisfied that even though there are clouds around, and your way seems dark, He is directing all, and that what seems a hindrance will prove a blessing, since He wills it.

Jean Nicolas Grou

This Day's Thought

A religious man is guided in his activity not by the consequences of his action, but by the consciousness of the destination of his life.

This Day's Thought

Just as transparent substances, when subjected to light, themselves glitter and give off light, so does the soul, illuminated by the Holy Spirit, give light to others and itself become spiritual.

Basil of Caesarea

This Day's Verse

When I sit in darkness, The LORD will be a light to me.

Micah 7:8
The New King James Version

God give me a deep humility, a well guided zeal, a burning love, a single eye, and then let men or devils do their worst.

We are all priests before God.

Martin Luther

This Day's Verse

I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

This Day's Thought

A man should be encouraged to do what the Maker of him has intended by the making of him, according as the gifts have been bestowed on him for that purpose.  His happiness, and that of others around him depends upon such a relation to the Maker’s will.

Thomas Carlyle

This Day's Verse

Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast.

Psalm 57:1
The King James Version

This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

This Day's Thought

We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in number, wealth, and power as no other nation has ever grown.  But we have forgotten God!  Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God who made us.

Abraham Lincoln

This Day's Verse

Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

1 Timothy 6:12
The New International Version

This Day's Reprise

The sermon of your life in tough times ministers to people more powerfully than the most eloquent speaker.
