This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

This Day's Thought

In healing one can concentrate on either of two attributes; the power of God or the love of God. In every healing there is a manifestation of both.

Francis MacNutt

This Day's Verse

Light dawns for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart.

Psalm 97:11
The Revised Standard Version

This Day's Reprise

There’s no faith like that of children. They know that God is quiet and calm and wonderful- big and interested in them, and kind. Their requests of God usually are reasonable and honest, modest. They seldom ask for more than they deserve. They know of no reason why the world, in fact, shouldn’t be mostly good.

This Day's Thought

God’s seed will come to God’s harvest.

Samuel Rutherford

This Day's Verse

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.

James 1:5-6
The New King James Version

This Day's Smile

Happiness is the practice of the virtues.

This Day's Thought

God’s promises of guidance are not given to save us the bother of thinking.

John R. W. Stott

This Day's Verse

May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy, giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.

Colossians 1:11-12
The Revised Standard Version

This Day's Smile

In me there is darkness, but with thee there is light. I am lonely, but thou leavest me not; I am feeble in heart, but thou leavest me not; I am restless, but with thee there is peace;  In me there is bitterness, but with thee there is patience. Thy ways are past understanding, but though knowest the way for me.

Thomas Fuller

This Day's Verse

And with that he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”

John 20:22

This Day's Reprise

If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.

This Day's Thought

If education can fit youth to face what the world calls failure, it will help them to find what God calls success.

Ralph W. Sockman

This Day's Verse

“And everything you ask in prayer, believing, you shall receive.”

Matthew 21:22

This Day's Smile

A mother was asked: “Which of your children do you love the most?” She replied, “The one who is sick until it gets well, and the one who is away until it gets home.”

This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

This Day's Thought

Are you willing to stoop down and consider the
needs and the desires of little children;
To remember the weakness and loneliness
of people who are growing old;
To stop asking how much your friends love you,
and ask yourself whether you love them enough;
To bear in mind the things that those who live in the same house with you really want,
without waiting for them to tell you;
To trim your lamp so that it will give more light and less smoke,
and to carry it in front so that your shadow will fall behind you;
To make a grave for your ugly thoughts, and
a garden for your kindly feelings, with the gate open?

Henry van Dyke

This Day's Verse

Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.

Luke 15:7
The English Standard Version

This Day's Reprise

The eye with which I see God is the same with which God sees me.

Meister Eckhart

This Day's Thought

You learn to speak by speaking, to study by studying, to run by running, to work by working; in just the same way, you learn to love by loving.

Francis de Sales

This Day's Verse

Teach me to do thy will, for thou art my God! Let thy good spirit lead me on a level path!

Psalm 143:10
The Revised Standard Version

For all that will be—yes.

This Day’s Thought-Friday

This Day's Thought

You are that which you are seeking.

Francis of Assisi

This Day's Verse

Think over what I say, for the Lord will grant you understanding in everything.

2 Timothy 2:7
The Revised Standard Version

This Day's Smile

A man told his wife that on a particular Friday he was going into the boss’ office to request the raise that he believed he more than deserved. He was quite nervous and upset. When he finally got his courage to go into the boss’ office toward the end of the day, the boss agreed that he deserved the raise and gave him even a larger increase in salary than he had anticipated. When he arrived home, he noticed the dining room table was set with the best dishes. There were candles burning. His wife was preparing a delicious meal. He thought to himself, “Someone has called her from the office to tell her.” He went into the kitchen, told her the good news, they kissed, and then soon sat down at the table for a delicious meal. Beside his plate was a beautifully lettered note which read: “Congratulations, darling! I knew you’d get the raise. These things will tell you how much I love you.” They enjoyed the delicious meal together. When she got up to get the dessert, he noticed a second card fell from her pocket. He bent over, picked it up, and read: “Don’t worry about not getting the raise. You deserved it anyway. These things will tell you how much I love you.”

This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

One of the deep secrets of life is that all that is really worth doing is what we do for others.

Lewis Carroll

This Day's Verse

Let these words of mine, with which I have pleaded before the Lord, be near to the Lord our God day and night, and may he maintain the cause of his servant and the cause of his people Israel, as each day requires, that all the peoples of the earth may know that the Lord is God; there is no other. Let your heart therefore be wholly true to the Lord our God, walking in his statutes and keeping his commandments, as at this day.

1 Kings 8:59-61
The English Standard Version

This Day's Reprise

One thing we may be sure of: For the believer all pain has meaning; all adversity is profitable. There is no question that adversity is difficult. It usually takes us by surprise and seems to strike where we are most vulnerable. To us it often appears completely senseless and irrational, but to God none of it is either senseless or irrational. He has a purpose in every pain He brings or allows in our lives. We can be sure that in some way He intends it for our profit and His glory.

This Day's Thought

Of all human pursuits the pursuit of wisdom is the most perfect, the most sublime, the most profitable, the most delightful.

Thomas Aquinas

This Day's Verse

All who exalt themselves will be humbled, and all who humble themselves will be exalted.

Matthew 23:12
The New Revised Standard Version
