This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

True repentance hates the sin, and not merely the penalty; and it hates the sin most of all because it has discovered and felt God’s love.

William Mackergo Taylor

This Day's Verse

For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

Matthew 16:25
The New King James Version

This Day's Reprise

There is little good in filling churches with people who go out exactly the same as they came in; the call of the Church is not to fill churches but to fill heaven.

Andrew of Perugia

This Day's Thought

Love has a hem to her garment that reaches to the very dust. It sweeps the stains from the streets and lanes, and because it can, it must.

Mother Teresa

This Day's Verse

Teach me, O Lord, the way of thy statutes; and I will keep it to the end. Give me understanding, that I may keep thy law and observe it with my whole heart.

Psalm 119:33-34
The Revised Standard Version

This Day's Smile

A new pastor in a certain village called on an unchurched family and gave them a cordial invitation to attend his services. For this he was taken to task by the pastor of another church, who said, “Those are our sinners; you let them alone.”

This Day's Thought

When you and I hurt deeply, what we really need is not an explanation from God but a revelation of God. We need to see how great God is; we need to recover our lost perspective on life. Things get out of proportion when we are suffering, and it takes a vision of something bigger than ourselves to get life’s dimensions adjusted again.

Warren Wiersbe

This Day's Verse

The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked will be short.

Proverbs 10:27
The English Standard Version

This Day's Reprise

Let a man go to a psychiatrist and what does he become? An adjusted sinner. Let a man go to a physician and what does he become? A healthy sinner. Let a man achieve wealth and what does he become? A wealthy sinner. Let a man join a church, sign a card, and turn over a new leaf and what does he become? A religious sinner. But let him go in sincere repentance and faith to the foot of Calvary’s cross, and what does he become? A new creature in Jesus Christ, forgiven, reconciled, with meaning and purpose in his life and on the way to marvelous fulfillment in God’s will.

This Day's Thought

Except by redemption no man has been delivered, no man is delivered, no man shall be delivered.

Augustine

This Day's Verse

We live by faith, not by sight.

2 Corinthians 5:7
The New International Version

This Day's Smile

It is quite useless knocking at the door of heaven for earthly comfort. It’s not the sort of comfort they supply there.

C. S. Lewis

This Day's Thought

Repentance, if it is true and sincere, will never be too late.

John Calvin

This Day's Verse

Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.

Proverbs 13:20
The English Standard Version

This Day's Smile

God will prove to you how good and acceptable and perfect His will is when He’s got His hands on the steering wheel of your life.

This Day's Thought

“My peace I give unto you”; it is a peace all over from the crown of the head to the sole of the feet, an irrepressible confidence.

Oswald Chambers

This Day's Verse

How many are your works, O LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.

Psalm 104:24
The New International Version

This Day's Reprise

The story is told of a poor man who plodded along toward home in an Irish town carrying a huge bag of potatoes. A horse and wagon carrying a stranger came along, and the stranger stopped the wagon and invited the man on foot to climb inside. This the poor man did, but when he sat down in the wagon he held the bag of potatoes in his arms. And when it was suggested that he should set it down, he said very warmly: “Sir, I don’t like to trouble you too much. You’re giving me a ride. I’ll carry the potatoes!” Sometimes we think we are doing the Lord a favor when we carry the burden. But the work is His, and the burden is His, and He asks us only to be faithful.

This Day’s Thought-Wednesday & Special Reminder

NOW AVAILABLE! Box of 365 of our very best Christian quotations!

Dear Ministry Members,

We are excited to present another means of receiving the best of our daily Christian quotations, offering you inspiration and encouragement for your day.  We hope you will enjoy and be blessed by this wonderful new resource, as described below.

From ministry member Mark of  Vilas, NC

I’ve been a supporter of This Day’s Thought for many years. Receiving their daily emails of noble and happy thoughts is one of the highlights of my entire day. When I was a young boy, my family had a box of Bible verses that stayed on our kitchen table. Before the main meal each day, someone would read the short verse and pray. Sometimes we discussed the verse; other times, it was simply read and returned to its holder. But the steady, daily exposure to God’s Word was having a profound effect on my life that I wouldn’t fully understand until I grew up and left home. As I’ve sawn, sanded, and nailed each little box together, it’s been my prayer that each one will find fertile soil in the lives and homes of those to whom they are mailed. The box is handmade in the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina from reclaimed wood, and it’s my great honor to place these selected quotes from This Day’s Thought into your hands. May the Lord bless you, grow your faith, and guide you on your journey toward our heavenly home. In Him, Mark, Vilas, NC

This Day's Thought

Joy is not mere happiness.
Nor does joy spring from a life of ease, comfort, or peaceful circumstances.
Joy is the soul’s buoyant response to a God of promise, presence, and power.

Susan Lenzkes

This Day's Verse

Those who are wise shall shine Like the brightness of the firmament, And those who turn many to righteousness Like the stars forever and ever.

Daniel 12:3
The New King James Version

This Day's Smile

The almighty Father will use life’s reverses to move you forward.

This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

This Day's Thought

Before God changes our circumstances, He wants to change our hearts.

Warren Wiersbe

This Day's Verse

Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t you understand this parable? How then will you understand any parable? The farmer sows the word. Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them. Others, like seed sown on rocky places, hear the word and at once receive it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. Still others, like seed sown among thorns, hear the word; but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the word, making it unfruitful. Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop—some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.”

Mark 4:13-20
The New International Version

This Day's Reprise

A violin-maker in the old days always chose the wood for his violins from the north side of the trees; it was the side upon which the wind and the storms had beaten. So he said when he heard the groaning of the trees in the forest at night he didn’t feel sorry for them, for they were just learning to be violins.

This Day's Thought

The man who lives without Jesus is the poorest of the poor, whereas no one is so rich as the man who lives in His grace.

Thomas à Kempis

This Day's Verse

That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

1 Corinthians 2:5
The King James Version

This Day’s Thought-Friday

This Day's Thought

The best of men are still sinners. If we take pride in the “greats” of this world, we have a warped view of God’s values. He chooses the base, the lowly, and the unknown.

Erwin W. Lutzer

This Day's Verse

“’Be strong, all you people still left in the land. And now get to work, for I am with you, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. My Spirit remains among you, just as I promised when you came out of Egypt. So do not be afraid.’”

Haggai 2:4-5
The New Living Translation
