This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

“My peace I give unto you”; it is a peace all over from the crown of the head to the sole of the feet, an irrepressible confidence.

Oswald Chambers

This Day's Verse

How many are your works, O LORD! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.

Psalm 104:24
The New International Version

This Day's Reprise

The story is told of a poor man who plodded along toward home in an Irish town carrying a huge bag of potatoes. A horse and wagon carrying a stranger came along, and the stranger stopped the wagon and invited the man on foot to climb inside. This the poor man did, but when he sat down in the wagon he held the bag of potatoes in his arms. And when it was suggested that he should set it down, he said very warmly: “Sir, I don’t like to trouble you too much. You’re giving me a ride. I’ll carry the potatoes!” Sometimes we think we are doing the Lord a favor when we carry the burden. But the work is His, and the burden is His, and He asks us only to be faithful.

This Day's Thought

The man who lives without Jesus is the poorest of the poor, whereas no one is so rich as the man who lives in His grace.

Thomas à Kempis

This Day's Verse

That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

1 Corinthians 2:5
The King James Version

This Day's Thought

God’s silence is in no way indicative of His activity or involvement in our lives. He may be silent, but He is not still.

Charles Swindoll

This Day's Verse

Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.

Psalm 127:1-2
The King James Version

This Day's Reprise

Benjamin West tells how he actually became a successful and important painter. When he was young, his mother went out and left him in charge of his sister Sally. In the meantime, little Benjamin discovered bottles of colored ink and began to do Sally’s portrait. What a mess soon developed. Finally, when Ben’s mother came home and saw the tragic mess, she said nothing. She merely picked up the paper with the portrait and said, “Why it’s Sally!” and she kissed Ben. Ever since that day, West has said, “My mother’s kiss made me a painter.”

This Day's Thought

You can’t pump up faith out of your own heart. Whenever faith is starved in your soul, it is because you are not in contact with Jesus; get in contact with him, and lack of faith will go in two seconds.

Oswald Chambers

This Day's Verse

I thought it good to declare the signs and wonders that the Most High God has worked for me. How great are His signs, And how mighty His wonders! His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And His dominion is from generation to generation.

Daniel 4:2-3
The New King James Version

This Day's Reprise

The easiest place in which to be spiritual is in public; the most difficult is at home.

This Day's Thought

At the root of the Christian life lies belief in the invisible. The object of the Christian’s faith is unseen reality.

A. W. Tozer

This Day's Verse

God’s voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding.

Job 37:5
The New International Version

This Day's Thought

The kind of faith God values seems to develop best when everything fuzzes over, when God stays silent, when the fog rolls in.

Philip Yancey

This Day's Verse

He fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry and saves them.

Psalm 145:19
The New International Version

This Day's Smile

How easy it is for one benevolent being to diffuse pleasure around him; and how truly is a kind heart a fountain of gladness, making everything in its vicinity to freshen into smiles!

This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

The difference between faith and works is just this: In the case of faith, God does it; in the case of works, we try to do it ourselves; and the difference is measured simply by the distance between the infinite and the finite, the Almighty God and a helpless worm.

Albert Benjamin Simpson

This Day's Verse

Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:

Proverbs 2:11
The King James Version

This Day’s Thought-Friday

This Day's Thought

There are three kinds of faith in Christ:
1. Struggling faith, like a man in deep water desperately swimming.
2. Clinging faith, like a man hanging to the side of a boat.
3. Resting faith, like a man safely within the boat (and able to reach out with a hand to help someone else get in).

Dwight Lyman Moody

This Day's Verse

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12
The New King James Version

This Day's Smile

A more glorious victory cannot be gained over another man than this, that when the injury began on his part, the kindness should begin on ours.

This Day’s Thought-Monday

This Day's Thought

We human beings instinctively regard the seen world as the “real” world and the unseen world as the “unreal” world, but the Bible calls for almost the opposite. Through faith, the unseen world increasingly takes shape as the real world and sets the course for how we live in the seen world.

Philip Yancey

This Day's Verse

But it is the spirit in a man, the breath of the Almighty, that gives him understanding.

Job 32:8
The New International Version

This Day's Smile

Every house a temple, every heart an altar, every human being a priest.
