This Day’s Thought-Friday

This Day's Thought

God was making you ten billion years ago, and he knew what he was doing: setting up a world you could live in and lining up an ancestry for you.  He is making you now, and knows what he is doing.  He will be making you ten billion years from now, and knowing what he is doing.

Carroll E. Simcox

This Day's Verse

True humility and respect for the Lord lead a man to riches, honor, and long life.

Proverbs 22:4
The Living Bible

This Day's Smile

Secret prayer is the spring-time of life.

This Day’s Thought-Thursday with Ministry Update

Ministry Update…We have added an A-Z index on our “Favorite Quotes” page so that you may find it easier to navigate and find your favorite Christian authors and quotations.  Our current collection stands at over 2700 of our very best quotes from the 20 years that we have been sharing.

We now plan to offer a printed version of the collection the summer of 2020, that should coincide with us reaching 3000 of the very best in Christian thought.

And as we continue to examine various archived collections, we do have a question for any ministry members who started with us those 20 years ago.  We are experiencing  difficulty reviving past shared quotations from the years of 2000, 2001 and 2003 as some of our files have been lost.  If any of you, who go back that far with us, have saved any of our daily messages or content, we would certainly appreciate hearing from you as we attempt to reconstruct some of that lost material.

As always, thank you all for your continued participation in this ministry.  And we so value your prayers for This Day’s Thought…for the Lord’s guidance, as we go forward together!

In His Love, Greg for This Day’s Thought

This Day's Thought

The more we let God take us over, the more truly ourselves we become—because He made us.  He invented us.  He invented all the different people that you and I were intended to be…It is when I turn to Christ, when I give up myself to His personality, that I first begin to have a real personality of my own.

C. S. Lewis

This Day's Verse

But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.

Psalm 5:7
The King James Version

This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

The wrath of God is never thought of in scripture as opposed to his holiness.  It is a necessary part of it.  Christ would have lost my soul if he had not refused to compromise with me.

Arthur J. Gossip

This Day's Verse

Listen, my son, and be wise, and set your heart on the right path:  Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags.

Proverbs 23:19-21
The New International Version

This Day's Smile

I don’t think there is any better worship than wonder.

This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

This Day's Thought

I realized Christians have been practicing a form of meditation for centuries.  It’s called contemplative prayer, sitting quietly in God’s presence rather than coming to him with a laundry list of requests.  I tried it.  It felt strange at first.  A bit boring and frustrating.  Thoughts and fears clamored noisily as I sat.  The more I did it, the more the clamor fell away and I felt myself surrounded by something I had never experienced before.  A loving present larger than my fretful mind.  Larger than my pain.  Larger than everything.

Jonathan Merritt

This Day's Verse

I am not worthy of the least of all the steadfast love and all the faithfulness which thou hast shown to thy servant, for with only my staff I crossed this Jordan; and now I have become two companies.

Genesis 32:10
The Revised Standard Version

This Day’s Thought-Monday

This Day's Thought

Peace may be translated “harmony.”  Harmony with one’s self is integrity; harmony with life itself is gratitude; harmony with people is brotherhood; harmony with God is faith.  All this adds up to the meaning of peace.  It is the gift of Christ.

Oscar F. Blackwelder

This Day's Verse

“And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

Matthew 21:22
The English Standard Version

This Day's Smile

Negativity and hate are contagious.  But so are positivity, kindness and courage.

This Day's Thought

In order to understand the true essence of a thing we must transform the physical into the spiritual.

Leo Tolstoy

This Day's Verse

Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

Matthew 9:35
The New King James Version

This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

The will of God is not always clear, especially with regard to the intricacies of daily conduct in our baffling world.  But often the will is clear, and its main directions are always clear.  A man ought not to expect light on God’s will in life’s intricacies of conduct if he is unwilling to follow a clear will in life’s simplicities.  Thus when a jaunty skeptic admitted his grave doubts about the Trinity, a man of simple faith rightly answered, “But aren’t you weak also on the Ten Commandments?”

George A. Buttrick

This Day's Verse

And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and by night.

Exodus 13:21
The English Standard Version

This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

The reality of knowing Jesus comes as a result of hidden prayer, and personal Bible study that is devotional and consistent in nature.  Christ becomes more real to those who persist in cultivation of His presence.

L. B. Cowman

This Day's Verse

Not one of all the Lord’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.

Joshua 21:45
The New International Version

This Day's Thought

Fight all error, but do it with good humor, patience, kindness, and love.  Harshness will damage your own soul and spoil the best cause.

John Cantius

This Day's Verse

And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

This Day’s Thought-Monday

This Day's Thought

Whoever seems to himself to have understood the divine scriptures in such a way that he does not build up that double love of God and neighbor has not yet understood.

Augustine of Hippo

This Day's Verse

Then he said to me, “Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words have been heard, and I have come because of your words.”

Daniel 10:12
The English Standard Version
