This Day's Thought

The activities we do for God are secondary.  God is looking for people who long for communication with him.

Erwin W. Lutzer

This Day's Verse

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.  But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.  If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

James 1:2-5
The New King James Version

This Day's Smile

God doesn’t believe in atheists.

This Day's Thought

I will thank and praise God for the strength of my body enabling me to work, for the refreshment of sleep, for my daily bread, for the days of painless health, for the gift of my mind and the gift of my conscience, for His loving guidance of my mind ever since it first began to think, and of my heart ever since I first began to love.

Edward King

This Day's Verse

I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus,

This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

To pray “in Jesus’ name” means to pray in his spirit, in his compassion, in his love, in his outrage, in his concern.  In other words, it means to pray a prayer that Jesus himself might pray.

Kenneth L. Wilson

This Day's Verse

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.

1 John 4:18
The Revised Standard Version

This Day's Smile

One friend, one person who is truly understanding, who takes the trouble to listen to us as we consider a problem, can change our whole outlook on the world.

This Day's Thought

Lord,
Be Thou within me, to strengthen me;
Without me, to keep me;
Above me, to protect me;
Beneath me, to uphold me;
Before me, to direct me;
Behind me, to keep me from straying;
Round about me, to defend me.
Blessed be Thou, O Lord, our Father,
for ever and ever.

Lancelot Andrewes

This Day's Verse

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 8:38-39
The New King James Version

This Day's Thought

Find satisfaction in him who made you, and only then find satisfaction in yourself as part of his creation.

Augustine

This Day's Verse

After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”

Genesis 15:1
The New International Version

This Day's Smile

King James I once became annoyed with the irrelevant ramblings of his court preacher and shouted up to the pulpit: “Either make sense or come down out of that pulpit!”  The preacher replied, “I will do neither.”

This Day's Thought

No, I do not become discouraged.  You see, God has not called me to a ministry of success.  He has called me to a ministry of mercy.

Mother Teresa

This Day's Verse

The Lord detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but the prayer of the upright pleases him.  The Lord detests the way of the wicked, but he loves those who pursue righteousness.

This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

He began His ministry by being hungry, yet He is the Bread of Life.
Jesus ended His earthly ministry by being thirsty, yet He is the Living Water.
Jesus was weary, yet He is our rest.
Jesus paid tribute, yet He is the King.
Jesus was accused of having a demon, yet He has cast out demons.
Jesus wept, yet He wipes away our tears.
Jesus was sold for thirty pieces of silver, yet He redeemed the world.
Jesus was brought as a lamb to the slaughter, yet He is the Good Shepherd.
Jesus died, yet by His death He destroyed the power of death.

Gregory of Nazianzus

This Day's Verse

“Listen to Me, O Jacob, And Israel, My called: I am He, I am the First, I am also the Last.  Indeed My hand has laid the foundation of the earth, And My right hand has stretched out the heavens; When I call to them, They stand up together.”

Isaiah 48:12-13
The New King James Version

This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

He who runs from God in the morning will scarcely find Him the rest of the day.

John Bunyan

This Day's Verse

For false messiahs and false prophets will rise up and perform signs and wonders so as to deceive, if possible, even God’s chosen ones.  Watch out! I have warned you about this ahead of time!

Mark 13:22-23
The New Living Translation

This Day's Smile

J. Arthur Rank, an English executive, decided to do all his worrying on one day each week.  He chose Wednesdays.  When anything happened that gave him anxiety and annoyed his ulcer, he would write it down and put it in his worry box and forget about it until next Wednesday.  The interesting thing was that on the following Wednesday when he opened his worry box, he found that most of the things that had disturbed him during the past six days were already settled.  It would have been useless to have worried about them.
