This Day’s Thought-Friday

This Day's Thought

It is a terrible mistake to understand Jesus as having been crucified by some especially bad people in the first century.  Jesus was crucified by the highest reach of human religiosity, morality, and political justice.

Albert T. Mollegen

This Day's Reprise

Fulfillment doesn’t automatically happen as a result of linking up with the “right” person, job, or even ministry.  Fulfillment happens as a result of being in God’s will.

This Day's Smile

Not one to monopolize on beer and wine, Luther also enjoyed good water; he prayed, “Dear God, what a noble fluid Thou hast given us in water!  It excels all wines; and yet, when we are well, we consider water, which so pleasantly cools and refreshes us, a mere trifle.”

Martin Luther

This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

This Day's Thought

The very helplessness of the world today is in itself a repudiation of that self-sufficient and self-confident view of life that the world in its progressive development has outgrown the need of Christ.  It is following Christ that gives the world what it most needs—a standard of right living, a cause to maintain and defend, a Leader to follow, and a law to obey.

This Day's Verse

I am not worthy of the least of all your loving kindnesses shown me again and again just as you promised me.

This Day's Reprise

People who are in the habit of praying—and they include the mystics of the Christian tradition—know that when a prayer is answered, it is never answered in a way that you expect.

This Day's Thought

One must reach the point of not caring two straws about his own status before he can wish wholly for God’s kingdom, not his own, to be established.

God forgives—forgives not capriciously, but with wise, definite, divine prearrangement; forgives universally, on the ground of an atonement and on the condition of repentance and faith.

This Day's Thought

Humility is the only response we should have towards a God who has given everything for our sake.

This Day's Smile

J. Hudson Taylor, visiting D. L. Moody in Chicago, was invited to preach at Moody’s church.  At end of service Moody announced they were going to take an offering and Hudson Taylor, who was the guest speaker, came onstage and said. “No, we have a non-solicitation policy.”  Moody thought he was crazy.  Lo and behold the next day a man brings Taylor a check for $5000 and tells him, “If I gave yesterday at church I would have only given you $5.”  We live in a world where we are probably overly dependent on our human efforts to do God’s work, whereas we are called to a simple faith.

James Hudson Taylor IV
