I realized Christians have been practicing a form of meditation for centuries. It’s called contemplative prayer, sitting quietly in God’s presence rather than coming to him with a laundry list of requests. I tried it. It felt strange at first. A bit boring and frustrating. Thoughts and fears clamored noisily as I sat. The more I did it, the more the clamor fell away and I felt myself surrounded by something I had never experienced before. A loving present larger than my fretful mind. Larger than my pain. Larger than everything.
Jonathan Merritt
I am not worthy of the least of all the steadfast love and all the faithfulness which thou hast shown to thy servant, for with only my staff I crossed this Jordan; and now I have become two companies.
Genesis 32:10
