This Day’s Thought-Monday

This Day's Thought

God has given us two hands—one to receive with and the other to give with.  We are not cisterns made for hoarding; we are channels made for sharing.

Billy Graham

This Day's Verse

“The Lord your God is with you,  he is mighty to save.  He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”

Zephaniah 3:17
The New International Version

This Day's Smile

You have so much to enjoy and to be, and to do.

J. R. R. Tolkien

This Day’s Thought-Friday

This Day's Thought

God’s voice is often still and quiet and easily buried under an avalanche of clamor.

Charles Stanley

This Day's Verse

“You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “and my servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe me and understand that I am he.  Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me.”

Isaiah 43:10
The English Standard Version

This Day's Smile

Friendship is one of the sweetest joys of life.  Many might have failed beneath the bitterness of their trial had they not found a friend.

Charles Spurgeon

This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

Everything we are given and everything we are deprived of is nothing but a finger pointing out the direction of God’s hidden promise which we shall taste in full.

Henri Nouwen

This Day's Verse

“Lord, the God of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven or on earth—you who keep your covenant of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way.”

This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

We pray for the big things and forget to give thanks for the ordinary, small (and yet really not small) gifts.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer

This Day's Verse

As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.

Proverbs 11:19
The King James Version

This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

This Day's Thought

God allows us to have disappointments, frustrations, or even worse because He wants us to see that our joy is not in such worldly pleasures as success or money or popularity or health or sex or even in a miracle-working faith; our joy is in the fact that we have a relationship with God.  Few of us ever understand that message until circumstances have divested us of any possibility of help except by God Himself.

Catherine Marshall

This Day's Verse

“Say to the righteous that it shall be well with them, For they shall eat the fruit of their doings.”

Isaiah 3:10
The New King James Version

This Day’s Thought-Monday

This Day's Thought

Do we carry about with us a sense of God?  Do we carry the thought of Him with us wherever we go?  If not, we have missed the greatest part of life.  Do we have the feeling and conviction of God’s abiding presence wherever we go?

Henry Drummond

This Day's Verse

In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help.  From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears.

Psalm 18:6
The English Standard Version

This Day's Smile

In the external scheme of things, shining moments are as brief as the twinkling of an eye, yet such twinklings are what eternity is made of—moments when we human beings can say, “I love you,” “I’m proud of you,” “I forgive you,” “I’m grateful for you.”  That’s what eternity is made of: invisible imperishable good stuff.

Fred Rogers

This Day’s Thought-Friday

This Day's Thought

The majority of men live without being thoroughly conscious that they are spiritual beings.

Soren Kierkegaard

This Day's Verse

“So it shall be, when you are on the verge of battle, that the priest shall approach and speak to the people.  And he shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel: Today you are on the verge of battle with your enemies.  Do not let your heart faint, do not be afraid, and do not tremble or be terrified because of them; for the Lord your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.’”

Deuteronomy 20:2-4
The New King James Version

This Day's Smile

Once it was the blessing, now it is the Lord.
Once it was the feeling, now it is His Word.
Once His gifts I wanted, now the Giver own.
Once I sought for healing, now Himself alone.

A. B. Simpson

This Day's Thought

His love hath no limits,
His grace hath no measure,
His power no boundary known unto men.
And out of His infinite riches in Jesus He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.

Annie Johnson Flint

This Day's Verse

While he was still speaking to the people, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him.  But he replied to the man who told him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?”  And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers!  For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother, and sister, and mother.”

Matthew 12:46-50
The Revised Standard Version

Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

Jeremiah 1:4-5

By friendship you mean the greatest love, the greatest usefulness, the most open communication, the noblest sufferings, the severest truth, the heartiest counsel, and the greatest union of minds of which brave men and women are capable.

This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

This Day's Thought

When Bill Borden, son of the wealthy Bordens, left for China as a missionary, many of his friends thought he was foolish to “waste his life,” as they put it, trying to convert a few heathen to Christianity.  But Bill loved Christ and he loved people!  On his way to China he contracted a disease and died.  At his bedside they found a note that he had written while he was dying.  It read: “No reserve, no retreat, and no regrets.”  Borden had found more happiness in his few years of sacrificial service than most people find in a lifetime.

Billy Graham

This Day's Verse

Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord.

Lamentations 3:40
The New International Version
