This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

We know how God would act if he were in our place.  He has been in our place.

A. W. Tozer

This Day's Verse

The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul that seeks him.  It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

Lamentations 3:25-26
The Revised Standard Version

This Day's Smile

What are we to make of Jesus Christ?  The real question is not what are we to make of Christ, but what is He to make of us?

C. S. Lewis

This Day's Thought

The difference between the atonement, as set forth in the Old Testament and as presented in the New, is that in the former case the sheep died for the shepherd, and in the latter the Shepherd died for the sheep.

C. I. Scofield

This Day's Verse

Then Jesus told him, “I have come into the world to give sight to those who are spiritually blind and to show those who think they see that they are blind.”

John 9:39
The Living Bible

This Day's Thought

Our lives are destined to become like the life of Jesus.  The whole purpose of Jesus’ ministry is to bring us to the house of the Father.  Not only did Jesus come to free us from the bonds of sin and death, He also came to lead us into the intimacy of His divine life.

Henri Nouwen

This Day's Verse

He who follows righteousness and mercy Finds life, righteousness, and honor.

Proverbs 21:21
The New King James Version

This Day's Smile

I have learned over the years that when one’s mind is made up, this diminishes fear.  Knowing what must be done does away with fear.

This Day’s Thought-Friday

Wishing you a most joyous and meaningful Christmas celebration!

Greg for This Day’s Thought

This Day's Thought

What is Christmas?  It is tenderness for the past, courage for the present, hope for the future.  It is a fervent wish that every cup may overflow with blessings right and eternal and that every path may lead to peace.

Agnes M. Pharo

This Day's Verse

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Luke 2:13-14
The King James Version

This Day's Smile

Because of Christmas Day, nothing can ever be the same again.

This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

Lord Jesus, we thank Thee for the spirit shed abroad in human hearts at Christmas.  Even as we invited Thee at Christmas to be born again in our hearts, so wilt Thou now go with us throughout the days ahead, to be our Companion in all that we do.  Wilt Thou help each one of us to keep Christmas alive in our hearts and in our homes, that it may continue to glow, to shed its warmth, to speak its message during all the bleak days of winter.  May we hold to that spirit, that we may be as gentle and as kindly today as we were on Christmas Eve, as generous tomorrow as we were on Christmas morning.  Then if—by Thy help—we should live through a whole week in that spirit, it may be we can go into another week, and thus be encouraged and gladdened by the discovery that Christmas can last the year round.  So give us joyful, cheerful hearts to the glory of Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.

Peter Marshall

This Day's Verse

In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.  This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria.  And all went to be registered, each to his own town.  And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.  And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth.  And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

Luke 2:1-7
The English Standard Version

This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

It is Christmas every time you let God love others through you…yes, it is Christmas every time you smile at your brother and offer him your hand.

Mother Teresa

This Day's Verse

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.  Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not wanting to make her a public example, was minded to put her away secretly.  But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.  And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”

Matthew 1:18-21
The New King James Version

This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

This Day's Thought

In order that the body of Christ might be shown to be a real body, he was born of a woman; but in order that his Godhead might be made clear he was born of a virgin.

Thomas Aquinas

This Day's Verse

All right then, the Lord himself will choose the sign—a child shall be born to a virgin!  And she shall call him Immanuel (meaning, “God is with us”).

Isaiah 7:14
The Living Bible

This Day's Thought

Jesus’ good news, then, was that the Kingdom of God had come, and that He, Jesus, was its herald and expounder to men.  More than that, in some special and mysterious way, He was the kingdom.

Malcolm Muggeridge

This Day's Verse

But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.

Micah 5:2
The English Standard Version

This Day's Smile

The light that shines from the humble manger is strong enough to lighten our way to the end of our days.

This Day’s Thought-Friday

This Day's Thought

In darkness there is no choice.  It is light that enables us to see the differences between things: and it is Christ Who gives us light.

C. T. Whitmell

This Day's Verse

A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.

Proverbs 25:28
The English Standard Version

This Day's Smile

How well he fell asleep!
Like some proud river, widening toward the sea;
Calmly and grandly, silently and deep,
Life joined eternity.

This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

If we are wise, we will do what Jesus said: endure the cross and despise its shame for the joy that is set before us.  To do this is to submit the whole pattern of our life to be destroyed and built again in the power of an endless life.  And we shall find that it is more than poetry, more than sweet hymnody and elevated feeling.  The cross will cut into our lives where it hurts worst, sparing neither us nor our carefully cultivated reputation.  It will defeat us and bring our selfish life to an end.

A. W. Tozer

This Day's Verse

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.
