This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

Therefore once for all this short command is given to you.  “Love and do what you will.”  If you keep silent, keep silent by love; if you speak, speak by love; if you correct, correct by love; if you pardon, pardon by love: let love be rooted in you, and from the root nothing but good can grow.

Augustine

This Day's Verse

Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion; for lo, I come and I will dwell in the midst of you, says the Lord.

Zechariah 2:10
The Revised Standard Version

This Day's Smile

May your heart sing as you embrace what you were created to be and do.

This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

This Day's Thought

I am disposed to say grace upon twenty other occasions in the course of the day besides my dinner.  I want a form for setting out upon a pleasant walk, for a moonlight ramble, for a friendly meeting or a solved problem.

Charles Lamb

This Day's Verse

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

Philippians 1:6
The English Standard Version

This Day's Reprise

I have more trouble with D. L. Moody than with any other man I ever met.

This Day’s Thought-Monday

This Day's Thought

A life devoted unto God, looking wholly unto Him in all our actions, and doing all things suitably to His glory, is so far from being dull and uncomfortable, that it creates new comforts in everything that we do.

William Law

This Day's Verse

For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.

Psalm 33:9
The King James Version

This Day's Smile

It is possible to live for the next life and be merry in this.

This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

God does not lead His children around hardship, but leads them straight through hardship.  But He leads!  And amidst the hardship, He is nearer to them than ever before.

Otto Dibelius

This Day's Verse

Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Ephesians 5:1-2
The New International Version

This Day's Reprise

Learn to hold loosely all that is not eternal.

This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

Accustom yourself gradually to carry Prayer into all your daily occupation—speak, act, work in peace, as if you were in prayer, as indeed you ought to be.

Francois Fenelon

This Day's Verse

“Pay attention to yourselves!  If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him, and if he sins against you seven times in the day, and turns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.”

Luke 17:3-4
The English Standard Version

This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

This Day's Thought

The word “Comforter” as applied to the Holy Spirit needs to be translated by some vigorous term.  Literally, it means “with strength.”  Jesus promised His followers that “The Strengthener” would be with them forever.  This promise is no lullaby for the faint-hearted.  It is a blood transfusion for courageous living.

E. Paul Hovey

This Day's Verse

“He will protect his faithful ones, but the wicked will disappear in darkness.  No one will succeed by strength alone.”

1 Samuel 2:9
The New Living Translation

This Day's Reprise

We do not hug our miracles close.  We put them hastily away, preferring the commonplace to live with.

This Day’s Thought-Monday

This Day's Thought

If the Lord be with us, we have no cause of fear.  His eye is upon us, His arm over us, His ear open to our prayer—His grace sufficient, His promise unchangeable.

John Newton

This Day's Verse

A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.

Psalm 68:5
The New International Version

This Day's Smile

When asked what he thought would happen to him when he died, the man replied, “I suppose I shall inherit eternal bliss, but I wish you wouldn’t talk about such unpleasant subjects.”

This Day’s Thought-Friday

This Day's Thought

The primary object of prayer is to know God better; we and our needs should come second.

Florence Allshorn

This Day's Verse

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Romans 8:2
The New King James Version

This Day's Smile

This is God’s way.  We advance by going backwards, we become strong by becoming weak, we become wise by being fools.

This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

I still believe that standing up for the truth of God is the greatest thing in the world.  This is the end of life.  The end of life is not to be happy.  The end of life is not to achieve pleasure and avoid pain.  The end of life is to do the will of God, come what may.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

This Day's Verse

Because of Christ and our faith in him, we can now come boldly and confidently into God’s presence.

Ephesians 3:12
The New Living Translation

This Day's Reprise

We are all pencils in the hand of a writing God, who is sending love letters to the world.

Mother Teresa
