This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

What a vast distance there is between knowing God and loving him!

Blaise Pascal

This Day's Verse

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.  My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.

John 10:27-29
The King James Version

This Day's Smile

“Will the road you’re on get you to my place?”  God.

This Day's Thought

I took up that word Love, and I do not know how many weeks I spent in studying the passages in which it occurs, till at last I could not help loving people.  I had been feeding on love so long that I was anxious to do everybody good I came in contact with.  I got full of it.  It ran out my fingers.  You take up the subject of love in the Bible!  You will get so full of it that all you have to do is to open your lips, and a flood of the Love of God flows out.

D. L. Moody

This Day's Verse

“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites.  For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others.  Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.  But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret.  And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

Matthew 6:5-6
The English Standard Version

This Day's Reprise

Faith is to believe what you do not yet see, the reward for this faith is to see what you believe.

Augustine

This Day’s Thought-Monday

This Day's Thought

This age needs a new inoculation of the Bible.  It is the tonic we need when our hope “Blood count” is low.  If we could take into our systems more of its good cheer, its poise, its courage, its quiet confidence in the long processes of life, it would act for us as the keel does for the ship; it would hold us steady in the time of storm, and keep us from bobbing aimlessly around.

Albert William Beaven

This Day's Verse

Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

Psalm 55:22
The New King James Version

This Day's Smile

Accept whatever He gives, and give whatever He takes, with a big smile.

Mother Teresa

This Day’s Thought-Friday

This Day's Thought

If you don’t take a Sabbath, something is wrong. You’re doing too much, you’re being too much in charge.  You’ve got to quit, one day a week, and just watch what God is doing when you’re not doing anything.

Eugene Peterson

This Day's Verse

The hope of good men is eternal happiness; the hopes of evil men are all in vain.

Proverbs 10:28
The Living Bible

This Day's Smile

Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word; always doing the smallest things right, and doing all for love.

Therese of Lisieux

This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

The bread you store up belongs to the hungry; the cloak that lies in your chest belongs to the naked; the gold you have hidden in the ground belongs to the poor.

Basil the Great

This Day's Verse

Wait for the Lord, and keep to his way, and he will exalt you to possess the land; you will look on the destruction of the wicked.

Psalm 37:34
The Revised Standard Version

This Day's Reprise

What a man is on his knees before God, that he is—and nothing more.

Robert McCheyne

This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

Sin has four characteristics: self-sufficiency instead of faith; self-will instead of submission; self-seeking instead of benevolence; self-righteousness instead of humility.

This Day's Verse

Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;

Romans 12:11
The King James Version

This Day's Smile

One must see God in everyone.

This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

We apologize that yesterday’s message was noted as “Tuesday” (it was actually the “Monday” message.)

This Day's Thought

If people don’t know their pastor, it’s easy to put the pastor on a pedestal and depersonalize him or her.  It’s also easy for pastors, who don’t know their congregations, simply to classify congregants as saved or unsaved, involved or not involved, tithers or non-tithers.

Eugene H. Peterson

This Day's Verse

Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.

John 16:22
The New King James Version

This Day's Reprise

Being a Christian is more than just an instantaneous conversion; it is like a daily process whereby you grow to be more and more like Christ.

Billy Graham

This Day's Thought

Prayer is a form of communication between God and man and man and God… I am always impressed by the fact that it is recorded that the only thing that the disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to do was to pray.

Howard Thurman

This Day's Verse

The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.  The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

Romans 16:20
The English Standard Version

This Day's Smile

Courage, dear heart.

C. S. Lewis

This Day’s Thought-Friday

This Day's Thought

The introverted church is one which puts its own survival before its mission, its own identity above its task, its internal concerns before its apostolate, its rituals before its ministry.  Undue emphasis on the static structure of the Church has led to the disappearance of a significant lay ministry in denominational Protestantism.

Gibson Winter

This Day's Verse

“I will cleanse them from all their iniquity by which they have sinned against Me, and I will pardon all their iniquities by which they have sinned and by which they have transgressed against Me.”

Jeremiah 33:8
The New King James Version

This Day's Smile

Martin Luther in his later years, was subject to periods of melancholy and depression.  One day he seemed particularly gloomy, so his wife Catherine von Bora dressed herself up in mourning clothes of black crepe.  When Luther demanded to know why she was in mourning, she said, “I thought God died.”  Luther got the message.

This Day's Thought

No one ever told me that grief felt so much like fear.

C. S. Lewis

This Day's Verse

The Lord your God which goeth before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes;

Deuteronomy 1:30
The King James Version

This Day's Reprise

God is more interested in the workman than in the work.
