This Day’s Thought-A Note of Thanks

This Day's Thought

Dear Ministry Members,

As we end this month of November, we want to thank you for allowing us to share our fundraising needs for the ministry.  And we now look forward to our next year together as we continue to share our daily  Christian “seeds” of encouragement and inspiration.

It has been quite a while since we offered a book containing our favorite Christian thoughts and so this next year we will begin compiling a special collection of such quotations that we will later offer in celebration of our 25th year of ministry.  Of the 10,000 or so quotations we will have shared with you over these many years, we anticipate this special collection will include some 2000 of “the very best of the best.”  It will take us this next year to edit this volume and we will keep you informed on its progress and completion.

We thank you for your support over all of these past years and additionally thank you in advance for all of your continued prayers and financial investment in our work.

May God bless you all in your continued walks with Him.

And if you would still like to make a financial contribution to this ministry, you may do so at any time by clicking on the link below:

This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

This Day's Thought

On January 12, 1723, I made a solemn dedication of myself to God, and wrote it down; giving up myself, and all that I had to God; to be for the future, in no respect, my own; to act as one that had no right to be himself, in any respect.  And solemnly vowed to take God for my whole portion and felicity; looking on nothing else, as any part of my happiness, nor acting as if it were; and his law for the constant rule of my obedience: engaging to fight against the world, the flesh and the devil, to the end of my life.

Jonathan Edwards

This Day's Verse

My soul melts from heaviness; Strengthen me according to Your word.

Psalm 119:28
The New King James Version

This Day's Reprise

I have been driven many times to my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had nowhere else to go.

If you are humble nothing will touch you, neither praise nor disgrace, because you know what you are.

Through patience a ruler can be persuaded, and a gentle tongue can break a bone.

This Day's Thought

THANKSGIVING

For the old sweet fashions of nature,
For the ritual of the seasons,
The wonder of seed-time and harvest;
And the sky over all,
Deepening as we gaze—
Let us give thanks.

For the flowers of divine grace and human kindness;
For the love that heals our hurts,
And the mercy that lifts us when we fall—
Let us give thanks.

For the thorns that require careful handling,
For the disciplines that train us for strength and honor,
For the sorrows that subdue to sobs and weld us in love to our kind—
Let us give thanks.

For our county and its laws.
For home and family and dear love of comrades
And for all who interpret to us the way and will of the Eternal.
Let us give thanks.

Jesse Halsey

This Day's Verse

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.

Psalm 100:4
The New International Version

This Day's Reprise

No duty is more urgent than that of returning thanks.

This Day's Thought

Let us be thankful on Thanksgiving Day!  Nature is beautiful; fellowmen are dear; duty is close beside us; and God is over all.

Phillips Brooks

This Day's Verse

And they sang together by course in praising and giving thanks unto the Lord; because he is good, for his mercy endureth for ever toward Israel. And all the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid.

Ezra 3:11
The King James Version

This Day's Smile

Were thanks with every gift expressed,
Each day would be Thanksgiving;
Were gratitude its very best,
Each life would be Thanksgiving.

This Day's Thought

Some of us are as dead to the perception of God’s gracious call, just because it has been sounded on uninterruptedly, as are the dwellers by a waterfall to its unremitting voice.

Alexander MacLaren

This Day's Verse

Lord, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us.

Isaiah 26:12
The New International Version

One way to define spiritual life is getting so tired and fed up with yourself you go on to something better, which is following Jesus.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

This Day’s Thought-Friday

This Day's Thought

The Bible’s strength is in its power to interpret life in terms of its tragedy and its glory.  The Bible frankly speaks of sin, not to belittle man, but to reveal it to him, bring him to himself, and offer him forgiveness and new life.  Thus is man remade.

Elmer George Homrighausen

This Day's Verse

“King David quoted Jesus as saying: ‘I know the Lord is always with me.  He is helping me.  God’s mighty power supports me.’”

Acts 2:25
The Living Bible

This Day's Smile

When we put our cares in His hands,
He puts His peace in our hearts.

This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

A little schoolboy living in the most poverty-stricken part of a great city found his way into a mission Sunday school and became a Christian.  Not long after someone tried to shake his faith by asking him some puzzling questions: “If God really loves you, why doesn’t He take better care of you?  Why doesn’t He tell someone to send you a pair of shoes?”  Thinking a moment, with tears rushing suddenly to his eyes, he replied: “I think He does tell somebody, but they are not listening.”  Are we listening to that still small voice of God?  If you know someone who is in need, express your gratitude by sharing with them.  Try it—just once.

This Day's Verse

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”  Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

2 Corinthians 12:9
The English Standard Version

This Day's Reprise

Some prayers are followed by silence because they are wrong, others because they are bigger than we can understand.
