This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

This Day's Thought

The Word of God is like an anchor. Each time you read it, you are putting your anchor in the ground and holding on.

Kelly Needham

This Day's Verse

“This is my command—be strong and courageous!  Do not be afraid or discouraged.  For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9
The New Living Translation

This Day's Reprise

Only when we are brought to the end of ourselves are we in a position to see more of God than we have seen.

This Day’s Thought-Monday

This Day's Thought

I have been asked hundreds of times in my life why God allows tragedy and suffering.  I have to confess that I really do not know the answer totally, even to my own satisfaction.  I have to accept, by faith, that God is sovereign, and he is a God of love and mercy and compassion in the midst of suffering.

Billy Graham

This Day's Verse

So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; in whom you also are built into it for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

Ephesians 2:19-22
The Revised Standard Version

This Day's Smile

Practice the pause.  When in doubt, pause.  When angry, pause.  When tired, pause.  When stressed, pause.  And when you pause, pray.

This Day's Thought

All my theology is reduced to this narrow compass—Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.

Archibald Alexander

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

This Day's Thought

The only way you can experience abundant life is to surrender your plans to Him.

Charles Stanley

This Day's Verse

Where is the wise?  where is the scribe?  where is the disputer of this world?  hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?

1 Corinthians 1:20

The eagle that soars at great altitudes does not worry about how it will cross a river.

This Day's Thought

We can learn that it is impossible to understand and appreciate who your spouse is without understanding his or her God-given uniqueness.

H. Norman Wright

This Day's Verse

Folly is joy to him who is destitute of discernment, But a man of understanding walks uprightly.

Proverbs 15:21
The New King James Version

This Day's Reprise

I have always been complaining that my work was constantly interrupted, until I slowly discovered that my interruptions were my work.

This Day’s Thought-Monday

This Day's Thought

To say prayers in a decent, delicate way is not heavy work.  But to pray really, to pray till hell feels the ponderous stroke, to pray till the iron gates of difficulty are opened, till the mountains of obstacles are removed, till the mists are exhaled and the clouds are lifted, and the sunshine of a cloudless day brightens—this is hard work, but it is God’s work, and man’s best labor.

E. M. Bounds

This Day's Verse

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.”

Hebrews 12:28-29
The New International Version

This Day's Smile

Singing together unites those who disagree, makes friends of those at odds, brings together those who are out of charity with one another.  Who could retain a grievance against the man with whom he had joined in singing before God?

Ambrose

This Day’s Thought-Friday

This Day's Thought

Prayer is as natural an expression of faith as breathing is of life.

Jonathan Edwards

This Day's Verse

The Lord detests those whose hearts are perverse, but he delights in those whose ways are blameless.

Proverbs 11:20
The New International Version

This Day's Smile

Dear God, I feel that Jesus is a friend of mine.  Since he’s your friend too, that makes us friends.  Right or not?  Let’s get together to play sometime.  You can bring all the toys you have and I’ll bring mine.  We’ll see who has more.

This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

The most privileged and moving experience a preacher can have is when, in the middle of a sermon, a strange hush descends upon the congregation.  The sleepers have woken up, the coughers have stopped coughing, and the fidgeters are sitting still.  No eyes or minds are wandering.  Everybody is attending, though not to the preacher.  For the preacher is forgotten, and the people are face to face with the living God, listening to his still, small voice.

John Stott

This Day's Verse

Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.  He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.”

John 14:23-24
The New King James Version

This Day's Reprise

Nobody ever outgrows Scripture; the Book widens and deepens with our years.

This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

So that if in this life we would enjoy the peace of paradise, we must accustom ourselves to a familiar, humble, affectionate conversation with Him.

Brother Lawrence

This Day's Verse

Then David said to Gad, “I am in great distress; let us fall into the hand of the Lord, for his mercy is great; but let me not fall into the hand of man.”

2 Samuel 24:14
The Revised Standard Version

This Day's Smile

A thankful heart doubles our blessings, causing us to enjoy them twice—when we receive them, and when we remember them.
