This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

This Day's Thought

Prayer is not just informing God of our needs, for he already knows them.  God does not show himself equally to all creatures.  This does not mean that he has favorites, that he decides to help some and to abandon others, but the difference occurs because it is impossible for him to manifest himself to certain hearts under the conditions they set up.  The sunlight plays no favorites, but its reflection is very different on a lake and on a swamp.

Fulton J. Sheen

This Day's Verse

“But whoever listens to me will dwell safely,  And will be secure, without fear of evil.”

Proverbs 1:33
The New King James Version

This Day's Thought

We may at times accept finite disappointment, but we must never lose infinite hope.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

This Day's Verse

Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.

Psalm 34:14
The Revised Standard Version

This Day's Smile

The children worked long and hard on their own little cardboard shack.  It was to be a special spot—a clubhouse—where they could meet in solemn assembly or just laugh, play games, and fool around.  As they thought long and hard about their rules, they came up with three rather perceptive ones:
1. Nobody act big.
2. Nobody act small.
3. Everybody act medium.

Leslie B. Flynn

This Day’s Thought-Friday

We apologize for the technical delay today.

This Day's Thought

We need to discover all over again that worship is natural to the Christian, as it was to the godly Israelites who wrote the psalms, and that the habit of celebrating the greatness and graciousness of God yields an endless flow of thankfulness, joy, and zeal.

J. I. Packer

This Day's Verse

For thou, O Lord, art good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call on thee.

Psalm 86:5
The Revised Standard Version

This Day's Smile

Yearn to understand first and to be understood second.

Beca Lewis

This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

May not a single moment of my life be spent outside the light, love, and joy of God’s presence, and not a moment without the entire surrender of myself as a vessel for Him to fill full of His Spirit and His love.

Andrew Murray

This Day's Verse

For the Lord grants wisdom!  From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.  He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest.  He is a shield to those who walk with integrity.  He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him.

Proverbs 2:6-8
The New Living Translation

This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

The voice of Christ: Write My words in your heart and meditate on them earnestly, for in time of temptation they will be very necessary.

Thomas Kempis

This Day's Verse

Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.

1 Peter 3:3-4
The English Standard Version

This Day's Smile

Smile at each other, smile at your wife, smile at your husband, smile at your children, smile at each other—it doesn’t matter who it is—and that will help you to grow up in greater love for each other.

Mother Teresa

This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

This Day's Thought

If we will only surrender ourselves utterly to the Lord, and will trust Him perfectly, we shall find our souls “mounting up with wings as eagles” to the “heavenly places” in Christ Jesus, where earthly annoyances or sorrows have no power to disturb us.

Hannah Whitall Smith

This Day's Verse

For with God nothing shall be impossible.

Luke 1:37
The King James Version

This Day’s Thought-Monday

This Day's Thought

The Christian knows no change with regard to God.  He may be rich today and poor tomorrow; he may be sickly today and well tomorrow; he may be in happiness today, tomorrow he may be distressed; but there is no change with regard to his relationship with God.  If he loved me yesterday he loves me today.  I am neither better nor worse in God than I ever was.  I will never lose anything of what I have in God.

Charles Spurgeon

This Day's Verse

Great peace have those who love your law; nothing can make them stumble.

Psalm 119:165
The English Standard Version

This Day's Smile

A Mother
When you are a child, she walks before you
To set an example.
When you are a teenager, she walks behind you
To be there when you need her.
When you are an adult, she walks beside you
So that as two friends you can enjoy life together.

This Day's Thought

One human spirit can, by its power and love, touch another human spirit.  It can take the soul and lift it into the atmosphere of God.  Those in need of help will find that the praying person is a transmitter of the redeeming power of God.  There is actually a mysterious interpenetration of all living souls.

Evelyn Underhill

This Day's Verse

But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret.  And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.

Matthew 6:3-4
The English Standard Version

This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

The equal toleration of all religions is the same thing as atheism.

Pope Leo XIII

This Day's Verse

“Great and marvelous are your deeds,
Lord God Almighty.
Just and true are your ways,
King of the nations.
Who will not fear you, Lord,
and bring glory to your name?
For you alone are holy.
All nations will come
and worship before you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed.”

Revelation 15:3-4
The New International Version

This Day's Smile

Count your nights by stars, not shadows
Count your days by smiles, not tears
And on any birthday morning
Count your age by friends; not years.
