This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

This Day's Thought

In order that the body of Christ might be shown to be a real body, he was born of a woman; but in order that his Godhead might be made clear he was born of a virgin.

Thomas Aquinas

This Day's Verse

All right then, the Lord himself will choose the sign—a child shall be born to a virgin!  And she shall call him Immanuel (meaning, “God is with us”).

Isaiah 7:14
The Living Bible

This Day’s Thought-Monday

This Day's Thought

Jesus’ good news, then, was that the Kingdom of God had come, and that He, Jesus, was its herald and expounder to men.  More than that, in some special and mysterious way, He was the kingdom.

Malcolm Muggeridge

This Day's Verse

But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days.

Micah 5:2
The English Standard Version

This Day's Smile

The light that shines from the humble manger is strong enough to lighten our way to the end of our days.

This Day’s Thought-Friday

This Day's Thought

In darkness there is no choice.  It is light that enables us to see the differences between things: and it is Christ Who gives us light.

C. T. Whitmell

This Day's Verse

A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.

Proverbs 25:28
The English Standard Version

This Day's Smile

How well he fell asleep!
Like some proud river, widening toward the sea;
Calmly and grandly, silently and deep,
Life joined eternity.

Samuel Taylor Coleridge

This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

If we are wise, we will do what Jesus said: endure the cross and despise its shame for the joy that is set before us.  To do this is to submit the whole pattern of our life to be destroyed and built again in the power of an endless life.  And we shall find that it is more than poetry, more than sweet hymnody and elevated feeling.  The cross will cut into our lives where it hurts worst, sparing neither us nor our carefully cultivated reputation.  It will defeat us and bring our selfish life to an end.

A. W. Tozer

This Day's Verse

Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.

Psalm 19:14
The King James Version

This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

The word joy is too great and grand to be confused with the superficial things we call happiness.

Kirby Page

This Day's Verse

“Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

Matthew 24:44
The English Standard Version

This Day's Smile

No one can have a gossiping tongue unless he has gossiping ears.

This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

This Day's Thought

The nearer I approach the end, the plainer I hear around me the immortal symphonies of the world to come.  For half a century I have been writing my thoughts in prose and verse; but I feel that I have not said one-thousandth part of what is in me.  When I have gone down to the grave I shall have ended my day’s work; but another day will begin the next morning.  Life closes in the twilight but opens with the dawn.

Victor Hugo

This Day's Verse

What shall we say about such wonderful things as these?  If God is for us, who can ever be against us?  Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?

Romans 8:31-32
The New Living Translation

This Day’s Thought-Monday

This Day's Thought

OH, thank You, Jesus, for being born for us, and living for us, and dying for us, and rising for us, and seeing us the Holy Spirit.  Thank You, with thanks beyond words, but must be expressed in the lovingness of our lives.

Madeleine L’Engle

This Day's Verse

“Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say: ’Return, backsliding Israel,’ says the Lord; ‘I will not cause My anger to fall on you.  For I am merciful,’ says the Lord; ‘I will not remain angry forever.  Only acknowledge your iniquity, That you have transgressed against the Lord your God, And have scattered your charms To alien deities under every green tree, And you have not obeyed My voice,’ says the Lord.”

Jeremiah 3:12-13
The New King James Version

This Day's Smile

Dawn is a gift given to us that we might see in it the face of God.  It is a time to acknowledge His presence and power in the glory of His creation.  It is a time to revel in the pageantry and color of creation.  At dawn God opens His hand; glory shines forth, and eternal light dispels night.

Eldyn Simons

This Day’s Thought-Friday

This Day's Thought

Prayer is the most important thing in my life.  If I should neglect prayer for a single day, I should lose a great deal of the fire of faith.

Martin Luther

This Day's Verse

“‘You shall be My people, And I will be your God.’”

Jeremiah 30:22
The New King James Version

This Day's Smile

The tongue is our most powerful weapon of manipulation.  A frantic stream of words flows from us because we are in a constant process of adjusting our public image.  We fear so deeply what we think other people see in us, so we talk in order to straighten out their understanding.

This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

We all know that a Christian must bear the cross.  In theory we are all prepared to accept one.  But you will no doubt have noticed that the cross that comes our way is never the right one.  The cross we bear (our health, our face, our circumstances, our family, our stupid job, our failure—or our stupid success) always seem to us to be intolerable, mean, humiliating, harmful…Desperately we call for another, a cross made to our own size, a cross which will be bearable, spiritual, elevating, beneficial to ourselves and to others.

Louis Evely

This Day's Verse

“O Lord, God of our fathers Abraham, Isaac, and Israel!  Make your people always want to obey you, and see to it that their love for you never changes.  Give my son Solomon a good heart toward God, so that he will want to obey you in the smallest detail and will look forward eagerly to finishing the building of your Temple, for which I have made all of these preparations.”  Then David said to all the people, “Give praise to the Lord your God!”  And they did, bowing low before the Lord and the king.

1 Chronicles 29:18-20
The Living Bible

This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

Christ’s deeds and examples are commandments of what we should do.

John Wycliffe

This Day's Verse

A man’s pride will bring him low, But the humble in spirit will retain honor.

Proverbs 29:23
The New King James Version

This Day's Smile

A house testifies that there was a builder, a dress that there was a weaver, a door that there was a carpenter; so our world by its existence proclaims its Creator, God.

Akiba Ben Joseph
