This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

As the morning is to you the beginning of a new life; as God has then given you a new enjoyment of yourself and a fresh entrance into the world, it is highly proper that your first devotions should be a praise and thanksgiving to God, as for a new creation; and that you should offer and devote body and soul, all that you are, and all that you have, to his service and glory.

William Law

This Day's Verse

Your dead shall live; their bodies shall rise. You who dwell in the dust, awake and sing for joy! For your dew is a dew of light, and the earth will give birth to the dead.

Isaiah 26:19
The English Standard Version

This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

It is one thing to testify in a church service surrounded by people who agree and appreciate the testimony; but it is an entirely different matter to testify to the person outside Christ who is ignorant of the Gospel or in opposition to its truth.

Lora Lee Parrott

This Day's Verse

And I am the foremost of sinners; but I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience for an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.

1 Timothy 1:15-16
The Revised Standard Version

This Day's Smile

A half truth is a whole lie.

This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

This Day's Thought

Peace with God brings the peace of God.  It is a peace that settles our nerves, fills our mind, floods our spirit, and in the midst of the uproar around us, give us the assurance that everything is all right.

Bob Mumford

This Day's Verse

Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety.

Proverbs 11:14

This Day’s Thought-Monday

This Day's Thought

Faith is a living, daring confidence in God’s grace.  It is so sure and certain that a man could stake his life on it a thousand times.

Martin Luther

This Day's Verse

“The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me; to one who orders his way rightly I will show the salvation of God!”

Psalm 50:23
The English Standard Version

This Day's Smile

You must feel a prayer before God can hear it.

This Day’s Thought-Friday

May your celebration of the resurrection of Jesus, our Lord and Savior, be blessed and meaningful, and may your hearts be filed with His joy.

This Day's Thought

The miracle of Christ’s resurrection: out of the grave into my heart.

David J. Netz

This Day's Verse

But Mary stood outside by the tomb weeping, and as she wept she stooped down and looked into the tomb.  And she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.  Then they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?”  She said to them, “Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.”  Now when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus.  Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?”  She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, “Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away.”  Jesus said to her, “Mary!”  She turned and said to Him, “Rabboni!” (which is to say, Teacher).  Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’ ”  Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that He had spoken these things to her.

John 20:11-18
The New King James Version

This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

For forty centuries, in one unbroken column, the race of man had been marching into the shadows.  And of all the millions who had descended into the shadowed valley, not one had every returned.  No dead human form through all the centuries had risen up into a post-mortem life.  There was in all Earth’s area not one empty grave.  No human heart believed, no human voice declared that there was such a grave—a grave robbed by the power of a victor stronger than man’s great enemy, death.  It was therefore a new and wonderful message which the Apostle communicated, when unto the dying race of man he lifted up his voice in the words: “One human form has risen from the dead; one grave of earth is empty; the man Christ Jesus who was dead, is alive again.”

S. S. Mitchell

This Day's Verse

At noon, darkness came over the whole land until three in the afternoon.  And at three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).  When some of those standing near heard this, they said, “Listen, he’s calling Elijah.”  Someone ran, filled a sponge with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to take him down,” he said.  With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.

Mark 15:33-37
The New International Version

This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

If you have no share in the living Lord may God have mercy upon you!  If you have no share in Christ’s rising from the dead then you will not be raised up in the likeness of His glorified body.  If you do not attain to that resurrection from among the dead then you must abide in death.

Charles Spurgeon

This Day's Verse

Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the governor’s headquarters, and they gathered the whole battalion before him.  And they stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on his head and put a reed in his right hand.  And kneeling before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”  And they spit on him and took the reed and struck him on the head.  And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the robe and put his own clothes on him and led him away to crucify him.

Matthew 27:27-31
The English Standard Version

This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

This Day's Thought

Whoever, therefore, is a true believer has of necessity an indefeasible hope, an absolute certainty of salvation.  He shares the resurrection of Christ.  His sins are as absolutely buried out of God’s sight as the body of Christ was buried in the tomb from the light of day.  They can no more touch and spoil his hope than they can touch and condemn the risen Lord.  All true children of God are now, because of His resurrection, wholly and forever justified, assured absolutely that they are now heirs of God and joint heirs with Jesus Christ, and waiting only for the day of full and final deliverance and glorification.

E. P. Goodwin

This Day's Verse

And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.  And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer: For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.  And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.  And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.  Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

Luke 22:14-20
The King James Version

This Day’s Thought-Monday

This Day's Thought

The return of Easter should be to the Christian life the call of a trumpet.  It is the news of a great victory.  It is the solution of a great perplexity.  It is the assurance of a great triumph.

Frederick Temple

This Day's Verse

But Jesus answered them, saying, “The hour has come that the Son of Man should be glorified.  Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.  He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.  If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.”

John 12:23-26
The New King James Version

This Day's Smile

Easter allows us to affirm that although God seems very distant and although we remain preoccupied with many little things, our Lord walks with us on the road and keeps explaining the Scriptures to us.  Thus there are many rays of hope casting their light on our way through life.

Henri Nouwen

This Day’s Thought-Friday

This Day's Thought

Too often we attempt to work for God to the limit of our incompetency, rather than to the limit of God’s omnipotency.

J. Hudson Taylor

This Day's Verse

Dear brothers, what’s the use of saying that you have faith and are Christians if you aren’t proving it by helping others? Will that kind of faith save anyone?

James 2:14
The Living Bible

This Day's Smile

Jesus is happy to come with us, as truth is happy to be spoken, as life to be lived, as light to be lit, as love is to be loved, as joy to be given, as peace to be spread.

Francis of Assisi
