This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

The people of our nation and the people of the whole world need to be gripped by the moral imperatives which grow out of the nature of God, by a sense of right, by principles of truth, and by ideals of decency.  Nothing is more needed by this sinful world than a revival of simple goodness and genuine uprightness.

Clifton J. Allen

This Day's Verse

Epaphras, who is one of yourselves, a servant of Christ Jesus, greets you, always remembering you earnestly in his prayers, that you may stand mature and fully assured in all the will of God.

Colossians 4:12
The Revised Standard Version

This Day's Reprise

A guest at a country house coming down to breakfast one morning was met by the child of the house, who running up to him and putting his hand in his, looked up into his face with a smile, saying, “I’m your friend now; I put you in my prayer last night!”

This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

There is practically nothing that men do not prefer to God.  A tiresome detail of business, an occupation utterly pernicious to health, the employment of time in ways one does not dare to mention.  Anything rather than God.

Francois Fenelon

This Day's Verse

“If you love Me, keep My commandments.”

John 14:15
The New King James Version

This Day's Smile

To the true disciple a miracle only manifests the power and love which are silently at work everywhere as divinely in the gift of daily bread as in the miraculous multiplication of the loaves.

This Day's Thought

The eyes see what the heart loves.  If the heart loves God and is single in this devotion, then the eyes will see God whether others see Him or not.

Warren Wiersbe

This Day's Verse

He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

Isaiah 40:29
The King James Version

This Day's Reprise

There was a tedious four-day trial at which a defendant stoutly maintained his innocence.  On the fourth day he suddenly decided to plead guilty.  The judge angrily inquired, “Why didn’t you plead guilty right at the start and save us all this time, trouble, and cost?”  “Honest, Judge,” whined the defendant, “I was convinced I was innocent until I heard all the evidence against me.”

This Day's Thought

I believe firmly that the moment our hearts are emptied of pride and selfishness and ambition and everything that is contrary to God’s law, the Holy Spirit will fill every corner of our hearts.  But if we are full of pride and conceit and ambition and the world, there is no room for the Spirit of God.

D. L. Moody

This Day's Verse

Whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor.

Proverbs 21:21
The New International Version

This Day's Smile

What unnumbered cathedrals has He reared in the forest shades, vast and grand, full of curious carvings, and haunted evermore by tremulous music; and in the heavens above, how do stars seem to have flown out of His hand faster than sparks out of a mighty forge!

Henry Ward Beecher

This Day's Thought

God commands us to be filled with the Spirit; and if we aren’t filled, it’s because we’re living beneath our privileges.

D. L. Moody

This Day's Verse

Therefore you are great, O Lord God. For there is none like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

2 Samuel 7:22
The English Standard Version

This Day's Smile

Hell is where everyone is doing his own thing.  Paradise is where everyone is doing God’s thing.

This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

Paul had a rough time of it.  He never stayed in a Riviera cottage writing his memoirs.  He sat in a dingy Roman prison waiting to have his heard chopped.  But he had fought a good fight, finished his course, and kept the faith.  He was waiting for a crown, anxious to depart and be with Christ, which is far, far better.  I find the last miles to be the best.  When it’s twilight on the trail, remember that the other side of the sunset is sunrise.  The other side of evening is morning; beyond death is life.  One hour in heaven, and we shall be ashamed that we ever grumbled.

Vance Havner

This Day's Verse

He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise.

Luke 3:11
The King James Version

This Day's Reprise

Faith is knowing that God is who He says He is, has what He says He has and will do what He says He will do and then putting ourselves in a position where our lives depend on it.

This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

Day by day I turned to my Bible.  Almost every day a verse seemed to speak to me and I began to write that verse against one of the arguments.  At the end of a year, every argument in favor of staying in business had been wiped out.  It took over a year, but I was not in a hurry.  I was willing to wait; I wanted it to be in God’s time.  Too much was at stake to dash into the thing.  I wanted to intelligently find the will of God.  And I found it as I sought the Lord through my daily reading and mediation.  I committed it all to the Lord and step by step, the way opened.

Alan Redpath

This Day's Verse

Be not a witness against your neighbor without cause, and do not deceive with your lips.

Proverbs 24:28
The Revised Standard Version

This Day's Smile

The widest thing in the universe is not space; it is the potential capacity of the human heart.  Being made in the image of God, it is capable of almost unlimited extension in all directions.

This Day's Thought

Patient waiting is often the highest way of doing God’s will.

This Day's Verse

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good!  His faithful love endures forever.

Psalm 107:1
The New Living Translation

This Day's Reprise

The army of Israel looked at Goliath through the eyes of man and said he’s too big to beat.  David looked at him through the eyes of God and said he’s too big to miss.

This Day’s Thought-Monday

This Day's Thought

Each believer stands on one side or the other of dedication.  Either we have made this lifelong commitment or we have not.  Either we have faced the issue of who is to be the master of our lives or we have been plucking up one sin at a time.

Charles Caldwell Ryrie

This Day's Verse

Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; defend the fatherless, plead for the widow.

Isaiah 1:16-17
The Revised Standard Version

This Day's Smile

A brick is made of clay;
So is man.
A brick is square and plumb and true;
So a man ought to be.
A brick is useless until it has been through the fire;
So is man.
A brick is not so showy as marble, but it is more useful;
Man is not made for show, but for service.
A brick fulfills its purpose only by becoming a part of something greater than itself;
The same is true of a man.
When a man fulfills this description, he has a right to be called a brick.

This Day's Thought

He who has slight thoughts of sin never had great thoughts of God.

John Owen

This Day's Verse

Whoever guards his mouth and tongue Keeps his soul from troubles.

Proverbs 21:23
The New King James Version

This Day's Smile

The Talent…
God gave me a talent;
And I threw it away;
Into the winds of yesterday.
I had no time to work for God;
Nor follow the paths my dear Saviour had trod.
So He gave it again to this unworthy soul;
Taking me humbly into His fold.
He said, “My child, what will you do with
This talent I have twice given you?”
I cried, “Oh Lord, forgive me I pray,
I’ll take the talent and use it today.
I’ll teach others that they might see
The wonderful life that’s found in Thee.”
