This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

Truly, it is in the darkness that one finds the light, so when we are in sorrow, then this light is nearest of all to us.

Meister Eckhart

This Day's Verse

I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people.  Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.

1 Timothy 2:1
The New Living Translation

This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

A man never so beautifully shows his own strength as when he respects another’s weakness.

Douglas Jerrold

This Day's Verse

They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”

Acts 16:31
The New International Version

This Day's Smile

A newly married sailor was informed by the Navy that he was going to be stationed for a year a long way from home on a remote island in the Pacific.  A few days after he got there he really began to miss his new wife, so he wrote her a letter.  “My love,” he wrote, “we are going to be apart for a very long time.  Already I’m starting to miss you and there’s not much to do here in the evenings.  Besides that, we’re constantly surrounded by young attractive native girls.  Do you think if I had a hobby of some kind I would not be tempted?”  So his wife sent him back a harmonica saying, “Why don’t you learn to play this?”  Eventually his tour of duty came to an end and he rushed back to his wife.  “Darling,” he said, “I can’t wait to see you for a cuddle!”  She kissed him, then said, “First, let’s hear you play that harmonica.”

This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

This Day's Thought

Keep Jesus Christ in your hearts and you will recognize his face in every human being.  You will want to help him out in all his needs: the needs of your brothers and sisters.

John Paul II

This Day's Verse

For thus saith the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength:

This Day’s Thought-Monday

This Day's Thought

In the natural world it is impossible to be made all over again, but in the spiritual world it is exactly what Jesus Christ makes possible.

Oswald Chambers

This Day's Verse

For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God.

Hebrews 3:4
The New King James Version

This Day's Smile

The first handshake in life is the greatest of all: the clasp of an infant around the finger of a parent.

This Day’s Thought-Friday

This Day's Thought

Originally one, Adam has fallen, and, breaking up…he has filled the whole earth with the pieces.

Augustine

This Day's Verse

The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

2 Samuel 22:3
The King James Version

This Day's Smile

The Bible is meant to be bread for our daily use, not just cake for special occasions.

This Day’s Thought-Thursday

This Day's Thought

Prayer does not mean that I am to bring God down to my thoughts and my purposes, and bend his government according to my foolish, silly, and sometimes sinful notions.  Prayer means that I am to be raised up into feeling, into union and design with him; that I am to enter into his counsel and carry out his purpose fully.

Dwight L. Moody

This Day's Verse

“You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.”

Revelation 4:11
The New King James Version

This Day’s Thought-Wednesday

This Day's Thought

Where would you be if God took away all your Christian work?  Too often it is our Christian work that is worshiped and not God.

Oswald Chambers

This Day's Verse

God who gives life to all things,

1 Timothy 6:13
The Revised Standard Version

This Day's Smile

Friendship is God’s special way of loving us through someone else.

This Day’s Thought-Tuesday

This Day's Thought

Duties are ours, events are God’s;  When our faith goes to meddle with events, and to hold account upon God’s Providence, and beginneth to say, “How wilt Thou do this or that?” we lose ground; we have nothing to do there, it is our part to let the Almighty exercise His own office, and steer His own helm; there is nothing left for us, but to see how we may be approved of Him, and how we roll the weight of our weak souls upon Him who is God omnipotent, and when we thus essay miscarrieth, it shall be neither our sin nor our cross.

Samuel Rutherford

This Day's Verse

But the Lord was gracious to them and had compassion and showed concern for them because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.  To this day he has been unwilling to destroy them or banish them from his presence.

2 Kings 13:23
The New International Version

This Day’s Thought-Monday

This Day's Thought

There is no situation so chaotic that God cannot, from that situation, create something that is surpassingly good.  He did it at the creation.  He did it at the cross.  He is doing it today.

Handley Moule

This Day's Verse

For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your hands I sing for joy.  How great are your works, O Lord!  Your thoughts are very deep!

Psalm 92:4-5
The English Standard Version

This Day's Smile

A religion that cares about the souls of men but not men’s bodies might be a religion, but it is not the Christian religion.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

This Day’s Thought-Friday

This Day's Thought

Grace isn’t a little prayer you chant before receiving a meal.  It’s a way to live.

Jacqueline Winspear

This Day's Verse

The Lord is slow to get angry, but his power is great, and he never lets the guilty go unpunished.  He displays his power in the whirlwind and the storm.  The billowing clouds are the dust beneath his feet.

Nahum 1:3
The New Living Translation

This Day's Smile

Sometimes the shortest distance between two points is a winding path walked arm in arm.

Robert Brault
